Waking up with a backache reminds me of how elusive pain is. When you are in pain, it alters your reality and it becomes a central focus. In other words, pain is an energy vampire.

And once the pain is gone, it's hard to remember just what it felt like anyway, only that it hurt. And the hollow dread that it will come back. This particular pain is a recurring pinched nerve under my left shoulder blade. It's usually triggered when I lift my arms over my head. This time it was triggered by lifting boxes over my head at work. I have one more day of that today, since as I mentioned in this blog before I quit a few days ago but told them I'd finish out my week's schedule. Now I'm sorely tempted to call in sick, but I hate to leave them so short handed today.

Sigh.

Yesterday four firefighters lost their lives trying to protect other people's lives in Palm Springs, CA.

I had an uncle that was a firefighter. He had a small heart attack that ended his career as such things are a cause for mandatory retirement.

One of my earliest memories from childhood was being at a babysitters late at night and falling asleep. My parents picked me up and took me home and I left my stuffed panda bear behind. I recovered this memory under hypnosis and asked my mom about it. She told me that it was indeed true and was amazed I remembered it. She said I couldn't have been more than five years old at the time.

Do you have a favorite childhood stuffed animal or doll? Do you still have it? What was it?
